Steps

  1. Group incidents into minor, moderate, serious, and emergency levels.
  2. Write response examples for each level.
  3. Decide when a moderator can act alone and when team review is needed.
  4. Publish a member-friendly appeal route.
  5. Review the ladder after real incidents expose gaps.

Consistency protects both members and moderators. People may disagree with decisions, but they should be able to understand the process.

Escalation ladders should leave room for judgment while keeping the ordinary cases boring and repeatable.
